There are two major aspects of my life that motivate me to write this blog:

  • In January of 2013, I discovered that I have metastatic prostate cancer. There is presently no known cure; there only various treatments to delay death.  There are no personalized predictions, but less than 30% of men with this diagnosis survive 5 years after diagnosis. The cancer affects every part of my life.
  • I am an atheist.  It is ironic that this should be important, because atheism is not really about me.  It is about other people, and their strange but intense beliefs about the world.  Without religion, there would be no need for the word “atheist”, but since religious people dominate the world, there is a word for people like me who do not share their credulity.  This affects much of my life, but not as much as the cancer and in a more positive way.

I expect to be writing about both of these, but it remains to be seen how regularly. Blogging it not exactly the top priority in my life, but I am now ready to try it out.

There may be things here of interest to family and friends. There may be things of interest to strangers. If there are not things of interest to you, then the internet has literally millions of other things you could spend your time reading.

And here is a contact form, which (if I understand WordPress correctly) will send me email.  I am willing to have reasonable discussions about many topics.  (I don’t need any hate mail, attempts to convert me, or threats, so if that is what you have in mind, don’t bother.  By submitting this form, you agree that I may publicly humiliate you if I consider your message obnoxious.)
